commissioning your portrait

The Process is actually quite simple and stress free, all you need to do is pick out a selection of photographs you are happy with and i'll choose what one i feel has the most potential. you can tell me about any colours you would like me to use or avoid, any specific theme you would like or pick aspects from some of my previous portraits that you would like me to combine for you, you can have whatever you like.

Throughout the commission process I will send you samples of the line work and the colour stages as it takes shape so we can make adjustments to better suit it to your taste. When the final design is ready I will email you a high resolution sample for you to examine closely. When you are happy with the final design and give me the go ahead I will prepare the portrait for printing and order your canvas.

Jel - 2009

The challenge with this piece was balancing detail and a minimalist colour scheme as requested by the client to make a portrait that is easy to look at but can be appreciated up close.

Ian & Claire Kinghorn - 2009

With this piece the couple wanted something different from the normal oval hazy wedding photographs that are common these days but still wanted it to be subtle and pretty. This proved to be a challenge in that my work is usually bold and striking. I used softer colours but more of them and with varying contrast to balance the composition.

I was pleased with how this piece turned out, it was my first wedding picture and was a step into new territory artistically. It was good to step outside my comfort zone and test my skills against a different format.
